Mom’s Mumblings

Christmas 2006

Christmas went very well.  Both the boys were so excited (and between grandma and parents, made out like bandits!)  I finally got to see Pirates of the Caribean (sp?) II.  Loved it, except for the ending!  The credits rolled up, and I couldn’t believe that was the end!  B. is into anything pirate realted right now, so that went over really well with him.  After opening up presents in the morning, we went to my mom’s house for dinner.  That woman could make mud and it would taste delicous :)   All in all it was a great day.

I’ve given up the ghost on trying to find the stupid usb cord for my camera.  So on Friday, I’m off to Radio Shack to try and see if I can get a new one.  Then I will (finally) get the pictures of the boys last haircuts off the silly camera, and be able to take a picture of the blanket I made DH.  I got the materials to knit a beautiful baby blanket, figuring it would be a quick stitch.  Which it might have been if I hadn’t had to restart from scratch 3 or 4 times.  It’s a patterned stitch, where if you mess up it is blatantly obvious.  Everytime I try ripping back to where I made the mistake, I either drop stitches I can’t find, or end up with more than I should have.  (Don’t ask me how I end up with more, it’s one of the great mysteries of the universe.)  So if I make a mistake I usually have to rip out the entire thing and start from scratch.  Very frustrating.   I ordered Stitch and Bitch after seeing it recommended on the Wagon, so hopefully that will help with me learning socks.  If nothing else, I can use the yarn for the blanket for that :)

Work has been going crazy!  I work for a prescription benefits manager, and we have a Part D program launching on the 1st.  Part D is the Medicare prescription program.  Seniors have until December 31st to choose a plan.  It seems like a majority of the seniors have put it off until this last week.  And then they get mad because they find out that they can’t be eligible by the 1st of January.  I’m sorry, but don’t yell at me because you didn’t get off your butt and register in time to have everything in place!  They have had since November 15th to do this!  Arghh.  I can’t wait for open enrollment to end.  (Just in time to go back to school :P )

It’s beginning to look a lot like Spring?

You would think in the northeast we could count on a white Christmas :) Nope, it’s about 50 degrees and rainy! I really don’t mind, as I hate snow.

I did all of my Christmas shopping yesterday. It wasn’t too bad. I was scared it would be insane, but it wasn’t. I finished hubby’s blanket last night. I really really need to find my usb cord for my camera. I still haven’t uploaded pictures of A’s first haircut from over a year ago.

I’m currently reading Knitting Rules! by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. I’m going to spend the day here attempting to clean, and finish the decorating tonight. I got my mom this really neat crock pot (she asked for one!) I actually want one like it. I’m giving her the blanket I made before W’s. I’m kind of scared about that. My mom is the crochet queen, and I’m not that good.

Ding dong the semester’s dead!

Don’t have all the grades yet, but I am done! For four weeks. I’ve wanted to keep a list of books I’ve read for a while, so I’m going to try that. Right now I’m in the middle of Brotherhood of the Wolf by David Farland. I saw Mistral’s Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton in the bookstore today, but I was a good girl and passed up on the temptation (hey, it’s only 9 days till Christmas!) I also saw Stitch and Bitch, and wanted it so badly I could taste it :) I’m going to do all of my Christmas shopping either tomorrow or Thursday (2 curious young kids, I put it off until the last possible minute)

W. gave me my big Christmas present early. A necklace with a circle of white diamonds, and inside he designed a figure of a mother and child. He said it was for the baby we lost this year. I almost started bawling in the restaraunt :) He said he wanted to show me he was paying attention to me. Well back to my blankie.

ummm…well…yea

It’s been a while. It has been so busy and I have the worst case of ‘brain dead’. It’s finals week and I’m just hoping to pass. This semester has been rough. I don’t know what happened to my motivation. I kind of want to curl up in a corner and have someone wake me up in 6 months or so :)

I had B’s first school conference about a month ago. I had no idea that kindergarden had gotten so involved. It seems almost rediculous. It’s like we are pushing children to grow up as soon as possible. Personally, I am ‘grown up’ and I want my kids to stay kids as long as possible. I don’t want him to get an ulcer over grades this early!

In other news, I’ve been reading up a storm! I read the Morrigan’s Cross trilogy by Nora Roberts. It wasn’t bad, wasn’t spectacular. I liked her ‘Key’ series much better. I read the Merry Gentry series and loved it! Personally thought it was much better than Anita Blake. I’m currently in the middle of The Runelord series. I’ve finished Runelords, and am on the second book (The Wolf Lord?) Really like it so far, very cool premise.

I’m still working on Will’s crocheted blanket. In fact, one of my coworkers saw me working on it and asked me to make her one as well :) I was very flattered. I’ve been itching to get back into knitting. I’d really like to make either a shawl or some socks. The socks kind of scare me though. I’ve never done anything but a blanket. And really, how hard is it to make a big square?

I’ve registered for next semester: Intro to Cultural Anthropology, French II, Psychological Assesment, Adolecent Development (I think on this last one. It’s Adolecent something or other) I think that brings everything up to date. Hopefully I’ll be a little more diligent in the future.
